It has been a trying year.

Spiritual wisdom tells us that the energy that we put out into the world comes back to us three times over. Expressing gratitude, rather than stomping on the year now that it’s behind us, gives us a better chance to attract positive energy as we move forward into 2021.

So, I thank 2020 for shaking up our reality on a global scale so that we could more clearly see the truth of what we’ve created, and destroyed, as a planet;

for exposing the truth of our systemic racism, sexism, over-consumption, lack of empathy, etc.;

for revealing our ignorance about our own complicity in all of these things;

for the obstacles that it put in our way, that we still might be working with through growth, change, and letting go;

for teaching us to value life—ours and others’—more than we did before;

for reminding us that we must accept that all living things die;

for reminding us that we can celebrate life, even under difficult circumstances;

for helping us to find life’s beauty in places we never would have thought to look before;

for allowing nature to have some respite;

for reminding us how nature can give us some respite;

for compelling us to see our daily life, work, and relationships from a different perspective;

for being a catalyst for change.

Maybe you'll be inspired to think up one or two things for your own list of gratitude for 2020. With all of the gratitude that we pour into the energy field of our society and our planet, perhaps we’re giving 2021 a better chance to bring us blessings. Wishing you joy and peace in the new year.
